He was born on 20 Oct 1978 at Delhi India. Nick name is Viru.He was one the leading
And  Opening batsman in the team.In 1999 he played his First ODI.

He was record maker in the Indian team. He holds highest score record of 319 runs in Test Match.This was the fastest 300 Test runs in  International history in 278 balls.The fastest 250 history in 207 balls against Sri Lanka at Mumbai In 2009.Another record of 300 Test runs twice in test cricket.
Fastest century in ODI in 60 balls.He was Vice Captain under Mr.Rahul Dravid in 2005.
The First Indian Captain to make a record of triple century in Test Cricket and Thhird position after SIR Donald Bradman and Mr.Brain Lara.in International Test cricket.
He made Twice the highest runs in a day in test cricket, 257 runs against South Africa,284 test runs in a day against Sri Lanka.
He made first record of Highest scored 309 Test Runs against Pakistan in 2004
Again He made 319 Test Runs against south Africa in 2008.
He scored more Test century than 50 runs.15 century and 14 fifties.
He was the only Indian batsman made record of Triple Century and five wickets haul in a Test Match.As a Captain he played 3  Test Matches with Sri Lanka,New Zealand, Bangaladesh each one match.He won 2 matches,last 0,no result 1.
